Branded by Abi Ketner and Missy Kalicicki Genre: Action, Dystopia Okay so I finally finished this book. I haven't read dystopia in a while so I'm finally back to it. We are promised a dark, kick ass-ery story, intense and swoon-worthy romance. Fifty years ago The Commander came into power and murdered all who opposed him. In his warped mind, the seven deadly sins were the downfall of society. |
Now, LUST wraps around my neck like thick, blue fingers, threatening to choke the life out of me. I’ve been accused of a crime I didn’t commit, and the Hole is my new home.
Constant darkness.
Brutal and savage violence.
Excruciating pain.
Every day is a fight for survival.
But I won’t let them win. I will not die in the Hole.
I am more than my brand. I’m a fighter. My name is Lexi Hamilton, and this is my story.

And this is what we got
His butt looks amazing in those jeans. |
I swear I quoted that line directly from the book.
The premise was my favourite thing among all the roll-eye events. The idea of using the 7 deadly sins to create a dystopia seemed extremely fresh and appealing. What annoyed me a whole lot were the characters.
I can't even emphasis how bad I find the relationship building to be. It had that much potential to be a great book but the character and relationship building is a huge turn off for me.

"I want you to trust me," he says. "Can you do that?" |
To me the character didn't feel real, didn't feel human. They do things I'm sure humans in the right mind would never have done which includes wiping ketchup off someone's face because he didn't realise it was there.
Not hot. Not at all.
Sometimes when I love the action and everything is awesome, I was getting really emotional until someone talks and ruins my mood.

"No. I just wanted the morphine and the stupid bi-" |
Really? I was just getting into the kick ass mood.
I especially hate it when guys act all Alpha male, it turns me off a bunch. Because everything just turns unrealistic and I have that reminder this is just a book. Once things get unrealistic, you will obviously have your problems with the book.
The characters were just not real enough.
Usually how romance work in books, we have to like the love interest so much, at any point they end up together our mind already screams just kiss already! We have to like the love interest that much for the romance to be successful. This book just didn't give me the urge to scream at them to make out.
Remember what I said about unrealistic-ism? This is the book that has the world revolving around the main character. Lexi, you're beautiful. You get that reminder every few chapters when a character compliments Lexi. You don't just see your friend and be like. You're beautiful. No one does that. What's more, literally 90% of the men she meets want to rape her. Really? Really?
Well next, this book doesn't have anything huge or unpredictable, it just goes. Like water. Nothing really happens or if it does, I predicted it. What's also annoying is when the main character trains for a month and becomes one of the best fighters while the others train for years to get to where they are. Realistic much.
This book is okay. The ending saved it from a much lower rating, which can't really get lower than where it already is.
