Heir Of Fire by Sarah J. Maas Genre: Fantasy, Action Here's what I thought. This book could have been action-packed. It could have been badass. There could be overflowing sass It could have been bloody fantastic. Alas, it's not. Surprisingly, I liked this book though I would definitely rank it last among all three but like close to being on par with throne of glass. The length, it's a problem. It can get real boring at parts and it pick up a little then... it becomes flat again. It's just so bloody long and nothing's happening and these characters. I can hardly recognize them. EVERYONE in the book is basically stuck in their self-pity and no one really had any backbone at all. EVERYONE thinks they are sacrificing themselves for the greater good. |
Celaena Sardothien has survived deadly contests and shattering heartbreak—but at an unspeakable cost. Now she must travel to a new land to confront her darkest truth...a truth about her heritage that could change her life—and her future—forever.
Meanwhile, brutal and monstrous forces are gathering on the horizon, intent on enslaving her world. To defeat them, Celaena must find the strength to not only fight her inner demons but to battle the evil that is about to be unleashed.
The king's assassin takes on an even greater destiny and burns brighter than ever before in this follow-up to the New York Times bestselling Crown of Midnight.

Celeana obviously, has the biggest change. She is just this no-feeling person who lacks any motivation at all. Just sitting there, feeling sorry for herself when Rowan strikes a low blow at her. I get that she is still mourning for Nehemia but. We totally lost that kick ass Celaena. She becomes a zombie like creature for a good half of the book, she really needs to pull herself together. Maybe I'm being slightly unreasonable here, but her sorry sight is getting real annoying. At least for the better part, she becomes stronger at the end.
I know the love triangle is gonna continue. And that's why we have to speak aboutDorian. I like that he is moving on but when he was thinking of how he felt stupid he ever thought to tear the world apart for Celaena I was pretty much like hold up right there. Because I honestly cannot see him falling in love with Celaena again, after he thought of something like that. If he falls in love with Celaena, then move on, then fall in love with Celaena again, I don't know what kind of prince does that make him.
And on the other side of the triangle, Chaol - like Dorian - is just about as interesting as plain water. I'm sure their relationship is better than that but I'm wrong and I'm disappointed at that. I really hope soon enough, they will get their damn shit together and well, become bros again. I honestly can't stand their relationship like that. Nothing is really happening on both sides. Chaol is indirectly helping Celaena but nothing is really much help on his side. Dorian is just concerned with himself. That summarizes their roles in the entire book.
Yes, roll them eyes.
The characters are all so weak I can't recognize them. Manon is boring. Aedion is um okay (though I really can't wait for Terrasen forces to join up) Rowan is an ass but it gets better, I'm still trying to get over the part that he was a jerk.
Other than me crawling through the thick book and the weak characters, it is a good book. I'm not really into fae or anything but some interesting things does occur and I really love the "bromance" that brewed up at the end. I freaking ship this bromance. Action seriously picked up at the end and the possibilites for the next book is absolutely endless. We uncovered so much of the past here, and more things are starting to connect. I'm still confused by the world mostly.
The character development needs to be presented in a better way. I liked how Celaena came to terms to who she really was and decided to just stop running but then again we get 500 pages of her sorry state. I get that Celaena will be getting into a lot of shit in the next book and I can't wait to see the old Celaena back in action again. Now that she's back not just an assassin but a fae and queen, I'm really expecting more action and just more of everything.
As much as Rowan deserves a smack, I just liked their friendship in the end. I know Celaena definitely needs someone like that in her life. It's more of friendship over romance here, and I want my ship together again.
Both love interests are boring here, I understand. But ain't nothing stopping my ship here. It's gonna happen. Chaolaena is gonna freaking happen. There's no way I'll EVER be jumping ships.
