Pivot Point by Kasie West Genre: Supernatural, Contemporary-Romance My fangirl heart refuses to live anymore. I have not laughed so hard in a book for so long. That kind of hysterical laughter. Yup. This book was definitely not what I expected at all. |
Knowing the outcome doesn't always make a choice easier...
Addison Coleman’s life is one big “What if?” As a Searcher, whenever Addie is faced with a choice, she can look into the future and see both outcomes. It’s the ultimate insurance plan against disaster. Or so she thought. When Addie’s parents ambush her with the news of their divorce, she has to pick who she wants to live with—her father, who is leaving the paranormal compound to live among the “Norms,” or her mother, who is staying in the life Addie has always known. Addie loves her life just as it is, so her answer should be easy. One Search six weeks into the future proves it’s not.
In one potential future, Addie is adjusting to life outside the Compound as the new girl in a Norm high school where she meets Trevor, a cute, sensitive artist who understands her. In the other path, Addie is being pursued by the hottest guy in school—but she never wanted to be a quarterback’s girlfriend. When Addie’s father is asked to consult on a murder in the Compound, she’s unwittingly drawn into a dangerous game that threatens everything she holds dear. With love and loss in both lives, it all comes down to which reality she’s willing to live through... and who she can’t live without.

"She's Clairvoyant, and she told me something interesting about your future. Right?" |
Really not what I expected. I thought she was going to Search for a few pages and make a choice. I was slightly confused at the start because new chapter after chapter I thought she was going to go back but she was Searching until the near ending. But this book holy crap.
It was super engaging, switching between her alternative choices and us as readers trying to deduce which in fact is the better future. Closer to the end both her choices collide and it was so exciting to watch them both unfold and overlap. Until the end and we all think can she have another alternative choice please?I was so entertained, constantly trying to guess what might happen next, what they might discover. You have to read it to understand.
Is this a love triangle? Addie have different guys as boyfriends in her two Searches. Obviously I try as hard as I can to analyze the love interests and choose one to side. It was difficult, although I did choose one I'm glad to pick in the end.
It was heart wrenching when she got back and had to pick one fate. Addie is a very smart girl I give that to her. She considered not just herself but everyone in it. I was extremely satisfied with what she chose, although my fangirl heart broke. It really showed Addie's true friendship and loyalty towards Laila, I admired that greatly in the book. Nowadays, YA books are just losing focal on the friendship aspect and finally reading a book that actually brought out those qualities was refreshing.

The boys pause at the door, and as I look over my shoulder at them, confused, I remember why, too late. My face meets the glass with a thud. "Ouch." I step back, rubbing my cheek. This place is so confusing. Why are some of their doors automatic and some not? |
Our main character isn't a good liar. But she is a really awesome person.
