Split Second by Kasie West Genre: Contemporary-Romance, Supernatural This book is practically confetti of happiness. Kasie West has done it again. It's so adorable and hilarious I swear. Although I would choose Pivot Point over it but both books has its own qualities! |
Life can change in a split second.
Addie hardly recognizes her life since her parents divorced. Her boyfriend used her. Her best friend betrayed her. She can’t believe this is the future she chose. On top of that, her ability is acting up. She’s always been able to Search the future when presented with a choice. Now she can manipulate and slow down time, too... but not without a price.
When Addie’s dad invites her to spend her winter break with him, she jumps at the chance to escape into the Norm world of Dallas, Texas. There she meets the handsome and achingly familiar Trevor. He’s a virtual stranger to her, so why does her heart do a funny flip every time she sees him? But after witnessing secrets that were supposed to stay hidden, Trevor quickly seems more suspicious of Addie than interested in her. And she has an inexplicable desire to change that.
Meanwhile, her best friend, Laila, has a secret of her own: she can restore Addie’s memories... once she learns how. But there are powerful people who don’t want to see this happen. Desperate, Laila tries to manipulate Connor, a brooding bad boy from school—but he seems to be the only boy in the Compound immune to her charms. And the only one who can help her.
As Addie and Laila frantically attempt to retrieve the lost memories, Addie must piece together a world she thought she knew before she loses the love she nearly forgot... and a future that could change everything.

#1 Relationship building:I'm a bit disappointed with the relationships here. Sure, the previous book was fluffy and cute but well since both parties obviously forgot the romance they shared, the relationship needs building once again. The romance was way too fast. For Addie's part is fine but Trevor knows nothing since 'they' have never happened before. I am aware Trevor shows liking towards Addie but still not enough. It really doesn't make a difference if he uses the word 'love' or not but it feels too quick for their relationship to develop in just that few moments. I would not mind if they author actually extended this book alittle for a few more scenes for Addie and Trevor, just not another book and I'm totally fine.
Both romances were too fast. I'm not a fan of more than one romance as the focus point in a book. Really, not a fan. This 2 romance was FINE for me but it wasn't awesome. Laila came off as a selfish character again because she kept using Connor for favours and suddenly the kiss came and I'm like. Woah woah, hold up there. Nonetheless, it was still fluffy so well love makes us blind, you see.
See. This really is a good book. Only one thing I have commented on. I'm impressed. Here's the things I love. Mainly everything.
#1 Quirky Dialogues:This is what buys you success in a book. Awesome conversations. Dialogues FREAKING CUTE.

"What about 'leave' don't you understand?" |
"I'm the muscle," Duke said. "You really want me to wait at the van with this guy?" |
Considering if Duke wasn't such an asshole I would love him. But he is an asshole. And I have the urge to rip out the page whenever I see his name so no.
#2 Writing:This kind of writing is perfect for contemporaries. I know I'm always fangirling about writing but well wait till I get to the bad ones.

I'm telling you nothing can really go wrong with good conversations.
She gripped a pink-and-brown-striped shirt in her hands, and her eyes flashed back and forth between the two piles. It wouldn't surprise me if she imploded from the dilemma of a shirt that fit into two piles. |
Fine that's under dialogue maybe but still. Just get the idea.
Bobby had said something about strong bursts of emotions advancing an ability. Maybe that's when my ability was advancing - when my emotions were heightened. I stood and walked to the sink, turned on the tap, and flipped on the garbage disposal. "Okay, pencil, your death is imminent." |
I even became a fan of talking to oneself as you can probably see.
He pointed to a headstone fifty feet away. "Rowan is going to jump out from behind that headstone when we get close. I would really make his day if you screamed." |
Love.
I looked up amd barely saw the flash of an object as it hit my face. "Ouch." The kid's shoe landed on the step below me with a thump, then rolled down a few more. "Did you just throw a shoe at me?" |
And these were just the dialogues. Wait until you get to see them do something sweet 'cause I can't really plunk them down here without spoiling.
#4 Action plan: Love how they synchronize their abilities and come up with something real fantastic.
Overall I'm super in love with this duology (if that's what you call it). I'm quite happy with the conclusion except some loose ends won't exactly tied up. An awesome mix of contemporary and action. This duology will definitely be my favourites for a long time to come. I need more Kasie West.
